Tanya in the News....

One third of the PUSH challenge is complete and our three chosen contestants have been sweating off the pounds. In just four short weeks these women have turned their lives around, making the competition fierce!

Back in December, we asked Oxygen readers if they've ever wished for a personal trainer and nutritionist. Then we gave them a chance to get their dream body by winning a session with trainer Bobby Strom and nutritionist Nancy Kennedy, regular columnists for Oxygen who are both known for their A-list clients. We asked our readers to send us letters explaining why they should be chosen and thousands of entries later, we narrowed it down to three deserving contestants.

On March 15, 2004, Kristy Seemiller, Tanya Sloan, and Sabrina Sorell popped in their personal copy of the Push workout DVD and began the challenge to shape up celebrity-style. Over three months, each contestant will push her limits to become the participant who makes the most progress. After 12 weeks, the woman who shows the most improvement will win an all expenses paid, five-day trip for two to Hollywood. While in L.A., the winner will train with Bobby Strom and Nancy Kennedy. She'll also have dinner with her favorite fitness model and spend an afternoon at the spa, courtesy of Robert Kennedy.

With one month complete, Oxygen's staff is checking in with the girls to see what improvements they've made, but first, a little info about the contest.

The Program
Push is a DVD ad video fitness program created by Push Media, Inc., which features Hollywood personal trainer Bobby Strom, New York aerobic instructor Patricia Moreno, and food guru to the stars Nancy Kennedy. For those who can't afford a personal trainer to develop a celebrity body, Push is an affordable alternative. For about the price of two sessions witha personal trainer, Push delivers 10 sessions (equipment included) on DVD or video, custom-designed to fit the viewer's fitness level and abilities.

The Team
Bobby Strom, a former NYC cop and 12-year competitive bodybuilder, is now a popular, highly sought-after celebrity trainer. Some of his recent clientele include Britney Spears, Jlo, Jessica Beals, and Jennifer Love-Hewitt.

Often called the Hollywood Food Cop, Nancy Kennedy is known for her movie set visits and celebrity house calls. Along with a group of registered dieticians, Nancy has developed an eating plan for the Push program using successful techniques that she's honed on stars such as Julia Roberts, Winona Ryder, and Kevin Costner.

Excerpts from the letter that won her way into the contest:
"I do not have a tale of desperation, self-loathing, or incredible weight loss for you, dear reader. Oh no. Much like Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw is the 'everywoman' of the dating scene, I, Tanya Sloan, am the 'everywoman' of the workout scene. Sweat in the City, oh my yes....

I've been reading Oxygen for about three years, and it's often my little piece of sanity in the mailbox after a hard day. Better than chocolate for the lack of body love that is breaking my heart.

I have tried and failed to be a size 2 supermodel. I have also tried and failed to accept that I will just be a 5 foot, 6 inch, 155 pound size ten or twelve. So currently I am trying and determined not to fail at being the very best me physically, mentally, and spiritually. I am determined to succeed in my meaningful fitness goals, while maintaining a balanced life full of things worth being healthy for.

I know my situation will resonate with your readers. I know my goals will resonate with your readers. And I know I NEED SOME HELP to reach my goals, which are lofty to me. And I know I respond well to challenges, and oh yes, publicity. So let me help you inspire your readers, and reap the benefits too!

Some of Tanya's comments from the end of month One:
The last time I was in great shape I was 26. I did a sprint-distance triathlon. I trained very hard all summer and was in the best shape of my life. But in the last year, I have felt betrayed by my body. I was playing lots of sports, eating what I thought was healthfully, and yet still gaining weight. I was angry with my body I didn't understand what I was doing wrong.

A typical dinner for me was often restaurant food, which usually included bread and appetizers. But now that the contest has started, I've been eating more home-cooked meals. A typical meal would be grilled chicken and vegetables, with a small side of brown rice or whole-wheat pasta, and a big glass of water.

When Oxygen called to say I won, I was surprised and thrilled. It was the happiest I've felt in years. It felt like a real sign that good things were to come. I'm determined to succeed, because I am very motivated by publicity and fear of failing.

The first thing I ate after finding out I won, and boy this is embarrassing, was that farewell donut double chocolate with chocolate frosting. I haven't done that since, but I knew a lot of hard work and reformed eating was ahead of me, and I needed to get it out of my system!

Everyone is noticing and saying, "You look so slim," "Wow, your stomach is so flat!" and "Tanya, you have a waist!" It feels SO good to hear.

I cheat a little every day, or else I'll feel deprived. I allow myself one small piece (40 calories) of fine dark chocolate daily. And about twice a week I have a cheat meal, which usually involves pizza or Mexican food.

If I had to rate my progress 1-10, I would say I am hanging on at a five right now. Much leaner than when I started, but still feeling the need to trim and tighten.
